Bell & Gossett Rolairtrol Air Separators

BELL & GOSSETT ROLAIRTROL AIR SEPARATORS

Bell & Gossett brand from Xylem has offered a lot of appliances for use in the industrial sector over the years. Their Rolairtrol Air Separator is another wonderful creation in the industrial world which has its widespread benefits and applications.

Bell & Gossett Rolairtrol Air Separators have their significant role in separating air which causes problems in hot and chilled water systems. It helps in air-free flow and thereby increasing the efficiency of the system. It is constructed in such a way that it meets the section VIII, division 1 of the ASME codes and the pressure and temperature ratings are 862 KPa (or 125 psi) and 350 F (or 177 C) respectively. High pressure and high temperature models are also available if you specially request for them. It performs better than any other market available system for the purpose of air separation in HVAC system. NPT,flanked and grooved connections made of stainless steel are available. The 3:1 body diameter to nozzle diameter ratio makes the fluid flow with a lower velocity and entrained air comes out of the system.

The design:- It has tangential openings which forms a low velocity vortex. Pipe handlers are to be attached with the tangential nozzles. For sizes greater than R8 to RL8, additional supports are needed. Model “R” has strainers which help in breaking the fluid surface tension and removing suspended solids.

It functions by using the processes mentioned below:-

  • Removal of entrained air:- By removing the entrained air, it protects the system from damage and prevents extra noise.
  • More efficient air separation:- It increases the efficiency of air separation with its tangential design and reduces the size required.
  • Reduction of energy costs
  • Improve heat transfer

Let us have a look at the different features of the air separator:-

  • The design ensures tangential flow. This increases the efficiency through the centrifugal force and velocity reduction by creating a whirlpool inside the vessel. The technology involved is forcing the water to the outer part of the vessel and bringing the air to the central part using vortex action. The unwanted air collected in the central part is then drawn through the collector tube.
  • The vessel shell is three times the diameter of the inlet and outlet pipes. This leads to a great velocity reduction which allows efficient separation.
  • A stainless steel collector tube is used to draw the separated air to the centre of the vessel to remove it from the system.
  • A baffle separates the air and water so that only the water is collected at the outflow and the air gets separated out with the help of collecting tube.
  • NPT,flanked and grooved connections offer installation flexibility.
  • Models having pipe diameters upto 36’’ will be able to be used for air separation.
  • There is a manually operated blow-down valve which helps in installation, maintenance and removal of debris.

It lowers pressure vortex at the centre of the tank and drops the pressure throughout the tank. The design and features makes the B&G Rolairtrol Air Separators the best option for industrial use. The usage of advanced technology and quality materials makes it the ideal choice of the industrialists. It is user-friendly with a decent look. Also, it can be used over a wide range of operation and flow.

Here are some of the precautions that you can take-

  • The operational temperature and pressure must be maintained.
  • Take care of the fact that the wet weight is greater than the dry weight and so the support system must be adequate for supporting the wet weight.
  • The product should be handled by a professional with proper use of a users’ guide or manual in order to avoid any damage or harm or any other accidents like fire and explosion.
  • Mating flanges, gaskets or boltings can cause connector failures which in turn cause spilling of hot or cold liquid.
  • A manual valve can be used to purify the sediments.
  • Teflon pipes are used to prevent lubrication. This can lead to over-tightening and breakage. As a result of this, a person may be harmed or a property may be damaged.
  • Open flame resources like torches and solder guns may cause harm to the painted or galvanized surface and release harmful products.

The Federal Energy Policy Act of 1992 has established a benchmark for HVAC . It has a provisional clause for energy support system. According to it energy should be transferred through the most efficient means. But, an air-bound system is a less efficient system. So, it uses valves and pumps to transfer energy efficiently.
