Key features of the HSC³ Series Split Case Pumps
- Superior design
The short-shaft design of the pumps is meant to reduce shaft fatigue and depreciation of the bearing and mechanical seal. This ensures an uninterrupted performance. The split case design makes the pumps very easy to handle and maintain. These pumps are designed for rugged durability. The conventional split case pumps consist of extended shafts which flex because of the long and deep stuffing boxes. These decrease the life span of the mechanical seals and bearing. The internally flushing seals of the HSC³ Series of pumps reduce the shaft span between the pump bearings resulting in much lower shaft deflection. This increases the life of the seals and bearings.
- Internally Self-Flushing Mechanical Seals
All the Bell & Gossett Series HSC³ Small and Medium Double End Suction Pumps come with this feature. The Internally self- flushing seal design enables 25% of the total pump flow to flush the seal faces continuously. This allows maximum lubrication, heat dissipation and removal of unwanted debris from the surface of the seals. It increases the longevity of the seals as compared to the seal life of conventional mechanical seals which are mounted on stuffing-boxes. There are no external flush lines or filter kits which get clogged and cause seal failure.
- Convenient maintenance design
The Split Case design of the Bell & Gossett HSC³ Series pumps allow easy access to the multiple parts of the pump. The maintenance process becomes very quick because there is no need to use heavy-duty equipment to service the mechanical seals or bearings. Just a few bolts need to be removed to reach the bearing and seal components. The HSC³ Series pumps do not require the removal of the upper casing or pulling of the rotating element. The pipe connections and the electric motor connections are not disturbed. This unique design saves time, effort and money.
- Heavy-Duty base plate
The base plate of the HSC³ Series pumps is welded and heavy-duty so that it can withstand the pump cycles for a long time. The base plate provides maximum rigidity to hold the pump in place. The closed ends of the steel base plate with full seam welds and the open top make the process of grouting very easy so that the equipment receives proper maintenance service. All Bell & Gosette pumps including the HSC³ Series that are frame mounted, make use of coupling guards which are ANSI-and-OSHA-compliant. These coupling guards connect the parts of the pump strongly. Coupling guards are provide safety and protection from the rotating element of the pump.
- L/D Ratio
The L/D ratio measures the shaft stiffness factor. 'L' stands for the distance between the inboard and outboard bearings and 'D' shows the diameter of the impeller. As the ratio decreases, the stiffness of the shaft increases. A stiffer shaft enhances the longevity of the mechanical seal and reduces the bearing load. The L/D Ratio of the Bell & Gossett Series HSC³ Small and Medium Double End Suction Pumps is much lower than that of a conventional horizontal split case pump. This increases the life span of the pump and its parts.
Specifications of the HSC³ Series pumps
- The HSC³ Series pumps are base mounted with a horizontal split case design in which the pumps are long coupled.
- The pumps provide double suction and the cast iron fitted construction reduces noise by enabling quiet operation.
- The suitable temperature and working pressure that are required for standard operation are 225 degree Fahrenheit and 175 psig respectively.
- The Bell & Gosette Series HSC³ Small and Medium Double End Suction Pumps are available in the size range of 2" to 10".
- The motor sizes can go upto 300 HP according to the requirements. These motors are designed in such a way that they prevent overloading at any point of the pump curve. The motors are designed according to the NEMA specifications and meet the EISA 2007 standards.
- The maximum limits for flows and heads are 6500 GPM and 400 feet respectively.
- The coupling is capable of absorbing torsional vibration and is flexible between the pump and motor so that it can withstand changes in speed to maximise its performance life span.
- Every HSC³ Series pump is hydrostatically tested as per the Hydraulic Institute standards in the factory itself to ensure proper working condition.
